Welcome to Yorktown Elementary School!
We want to welcome you to our school - it is a wonderful place to learn and grow! We look forward to meeting you and working with you this year!
We know coming to a new school can bring lots of feelings – the school counseling team is here to help! Upon arriving at YES, each new student will be welcomed by two classmates who will assist with lunch and recess for the first week. Each new student also receives a welcome kit from our Anchored4Life team leaders (students trained to welcome new students to our building!) as well as a visit from a school counselor!
Families will receive a phone call home within the first month to check in and see how things are going.
Students are invited to new student lunch bunches as well!
Our goal at YES is to help you feel like a member of our Falcon Family right away, but if you experience any transitional concerns or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

PTA Information:
We have an incredible PTA at YES! For more information, please contact our president, Amanda Albini, at yes.falcons.pta@gmail.com. Membership information is also available at the PTA link on our web page.
School Hours are 8:50 a.m. to 3:35 p.m.
- The late bell rings at 9:05 a.m. All students arriving after 9:05 a.m. should be brought into the office and signed in by a parent or guardian. Your state ID is required.
- If you need to pick your child up early, please plan to be in the office by 3:10. Students will not be called from class after 3:10.
- Late arrivals and early dismissals interrupt important instruction time and should be kept to a minimum.
- Your driver’s license or state-issued photo ID is required every time you enter our school!
- If your child will be absent, please notify us by email yesattendance@ycsd.york.va.us
- A written excuse is required when your child returns to school and may also be submitted via email at yesattendance@ycsd.york.va.us
Clinic Information:
- Our nurse is Julie Thomas. The clinic phone number is 757-890-1036 and her email is jthomas@ycsd.york.va.us.
- If medication is necessary during the school day it must be brought to the clinic by a parent or guardian in the original container with the appropriate label. A parental permission form must be completed and signed.
- After a child has been sick, please do not send them back to school until they have gone 24 hours without a fever, vomiting, or diarrhea.
- Please use the YCSD health screening tool to determine whether your child is well enough to come to school.
- Please make sure your child’s vaccination records are updated annually with our clinic.
- If your child has any food or medicine allergies, please make it a point to discuss this with our school nurse.

- Our cafeteria manager is Terri Cockey, and she can be reached at 757-898-0496 or tcockey@ycsd.york.va.us.
- Sodexo operated the cafeteria at YES. Breakfast costs $1.75 and lunch costs $2.85. Free and reduced lunch applications are available at https://www.myschoolapps.com/
